A Brief History…

CARMA is one of seven national sites funded beginning in 2001 through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s Controlling Asthma in American Cities Project. This project is aimed at decreasing asthma-related morbidity in children in urban communities using innovative and collaborative approaches. In addition to the CDC, CARMA receives funding for other programs from Bon Secours Richmond Health System and the Virginia Department of Health. Additionally, CARMA was awarded funding in 2005 from the Environmental Protection Agency to implement an in-home education and indoor environmental trigger mitigation program.
